Description:
‘I want to try to convey some of Churchill’s genius to a new generation, not through a simple retelling of his life: that has been done many times, and by scholars far greater than I will ever be. I propose to tell the story of the Churchill Factor, how his character made a difference to events – and how it is still helping to shape our world today.’ Boris Johnson
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Winston Churchill’s death, Boris Johnson explored what makes up the ‘Churchill Factor’ ̶ the singular brilliance of one of the most important leaders of the twentieth century. Taking on the myths and misconceptions along with the outsized reality, he portrayed ̶ with characteristic wit and passion ̶ a man of multiple contradictions, contagious bravery, breath-taking eloquence, matchless strategizing, and deep humanity.
The Spectator was proud to host a special evening with Boris Johnson in conversation with Andrew Neil, to celebrate the launch of his new book The Churchill Factor. This was an evening not just for anyone with an interest in history: it is essential for anyone who wants to know what makes a great leader.
