Britain is one of the world’s major exporters, a global leader in professional services, aerospace, defence equipment, education and creative industries. But there is much more that can be done to promote British brands to the world and spread our products and services throughout the globe.
The Spectator and BAE Systems brought together an impressive lineup of speakers to discuss how Britain can capitalise on its strengths and regain the prominence it once enjoyed in world commerce. Leading with a keynote speech from the current Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, this half-day event featured exporting success stories from expert industry figures.
Nigel Whitehead, Group Managing Director, BAE Systemsand Larry Malcic, Director of Design, HOK discussed whether British businesses have the skills, the science and the salesmanship to succeed in new emerging markets?
Michael Ward, Managing Director, Harrods asked ‘How do we sell Brand Britain?’
Lesley Batchelor, Director General, Institute of Export explained the importance of shifting the export emphasis from Europe to emerging markets.
The event closed with a keynote speech from John Cridland, Director General, CBI.
