3.45pm Panel: Is the NHS badly run?

In 1948, "the National Health Service was created as a solution to a problem of access, not of quality. British healthcare was – for those who could get it – very good already”. Is that still the case? Or has the original socialist agenda to create access for all broken the need for quality in a failing system?

With its 75th anniversary in 2023, we have reflected on how the UK health system has gotten to this point. What can we do now to ensure that the 80th, 90th and 100th anniversaries are celebrated for innovation, rejuvenation, and collaboration?

Speakers:

Karin Smyth MP, shadow health minister

Steve Brine MP, chair, Health Committee

Chris Hopson, NHS chief strategy officer

Charlotte Pickles, director, Reform
