Join The Spectator’s literary editor Sam Leith for The Book Club Live: An evening with Max Hastings, celebrating the release of Max’s new book Sword: D-Day – Trial by Battle while marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.‍

Veteran chronicler of war and former editor-in-chief of the Daily Telegraph Max Hastings explores with extraordinary vividness the actions of the Commando brigade, Montgomery’s 3^rd Infantry and 6^th Airborne divisions on and around a single British beach. Attendees will enjoy an evening listening to Max as he discusses the inspiration and motivation for writing such a compelling book. Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to put their own questions to Max and perhaps find out about the story of the brigadier who was fired for letting Churchill down.

In The Book Club Live, Sam and Max will discuss D-Day as you have never heard the story told before. 

Guests with tickets that include a signed copy of Max’s hardback book, RRP £25, will be able to collect the book on the night.
