Description:

The Conservative party was once the natural political home for those on the right. No longer. The Tories’ vote share collapsed at the 2024 general election and the party, now under new leadership, has since been outflanked by Nigel Farage’s Reform UK.

Reform talks tough on immigration, disdains the EU, net zero and politically correct elites – territory once commanded by the Conservatives. Opinion polls consistently place Reform well ahead of both the Tories and Labour. Yet despite local election success and a steady stream of Conservative defections, can Reform prove it really does have more to offer than one charismatic leader? Will traditional Conservatives return to the world’s oldest party, or does its legacy of political leadership through Disraeli, Churchill and Thatcher mean nothing to today’s voters, who associate it with high taxes, mass immigration and the hangover of ‘Partygate’?

Join us as we pit the Conservatives, represented by Matthew Syed and Dominic Johnson, against Reform UK, represented by Matt Goodwin and Danny Kruger, to see which party truly represents the future of the right. The Fight for the Right will be chaired by Isabel Hardman, The Spectator’s assistant editor.
